Aniki got the shits pretty early on. The decks weren\\\\\\\'t stable and there was a fair amount of skipping, so he was crashing records togther but it didn\\\\\\\'t matter, as it was in keeping with the theme of the night, loud and raw. He finshed rather early I thought by dropping a Motley Cru track (God I think it was \\\\\\\'Kick Start my Heart\\\\\\\') and cranked it to 11 while he packed up ... Some people in the lounge closed the door in disgust and things were underway, truly a fitting way for the night to start ...

I always get excited when a new Slayer album comes out. It's not like I'm the biggest fan in the world. Quite the opposite. I listen to their new albums for a couple weeks and then they get shelved until the next one. I thought I had heard a rumor that Slayer was packing it in after their last album but here they are, back again with a furious new album called World Painted Blood and again I find myself tingling with excitement. An excuse to listen to the mighty metal band once again.The album opens up with the title track, proving that this is going to be one wild ride. They head out on track number 2, "Unit 731" at breakneck speed. That speed keeps up for "Snuff" before laying down a bit on "Beauty Through Order". It's these tracks that really get me going.The song "Playing With Dolls" is creepy and slow, one of my favorites on Blood. And they really rip it up on the last track, "Not Of This God". Still managing a chugga chugga feel but a Mach 10. These guys still have it.I found myself not quite as excited

The upper reaches of the narrow, high-ceiling room seem to fade into a dark night sky up near the old tin ceiling, and the lighting below is never too bright. Which is a good thing. People don't come in this old place to see things clearly or shine a spotlight of their life's progress. People come here for a respite from the daily grind, to be reminded that some bars still serve the same escapist purpose they did in the 1930s, when O'Connor's opened. A beer, a tune from the jukebox, a temporary loss of memory, a bit of weightless, nonconfrontational rapport with your fellow man.

Think One Minute Silence but heavier, with touches of metalcore melody and a hip-hop groove and youre not far off what this band sound like. Its nicely heavy in places, without losing the upbeat sound of hip-hop and they dont sound like theyre playing it to suit others. This music is in their blood, they fucking love it and want everyone else to as well.

Whats more, this lot can actually write songs which are good lyrically as well as great for the ears, Hooked and Detonate being good examples. Theres no Fred Durst style stupidity here..

A huge problem which has befallen British rap-metal bands like Lostprophets is the stupid belief that if they try to sound American then it makes them better. When its bloody obvious it does not. Razorwire crucially dont do this, and as a result dont sound fake. Theyre British and proud of it and it makes this album a hell of a lot better.
