THE HIPPIES WERE RIGHT! from first to last,

SO REASSESS AND "DROP OUT" FAST!

- an ambient lecture (with demo movies) by Fraser Clark.

To 60s Hippies the dominant greed-crazed, competitive, personally repressed, anti-Nature society looked insane and a threat to EVERYONE, even the rich within it.

DROPPING OUT was a brave, personal decision to reduce your consumption (and your carbon footprint) by 75%. Millions of good people accepted that's what the planet needed, and hundreds of thousands have continued ever since - unreported on the celebrity charts.

Had everyone possessed the insight and courage to do the same (and you didn't need much insight - the facts were quite well known then!), we would today be passing on to the next generation a beautiful, healthily preserved, sensitively developed garden planet, instead of this shameful, toxic, deeply disturbed mess.

Now people are beginning to be forced to make those changes. Welcome aboard Yuppies! Trendies! Punks! Metal Heads!

Directed by Alan Clarke, Made in Britain is a brutally realistic portrayal of skinheads, racism, violence and urban neglect in Thatcher's Britain.

Like many of Clarke's works, such as his acclaimed Scum, this film does not moralise but merely allows viewers to draw their own conclusions.

Kicked along by a searing soundtrack by The Exploited, the influence of Made in Britain is evident in subsequent movies such as Romper Stomper and American History X.

LOTRO Reviewlotro gold wow gold wow goldI have fond and distinct memories of my Mother's horrified look as I walked around the house singing "Where there's a whip, there's a way," and even more fond memories of the humorously bewildered look as I tried to explain her where I got the phrase from. A few years later, I had the pleasure of being able to read the books that these fantastic movies came from, and further enjoy the tales of Tolkien on yet another level. In the recent past, the new movies have brought the story even more to life with epic Hollywood flare. The party was a terrific celebration of over a year's hard work. Recording began on the album during March of 2007. Tim had located the independent production team of Counter Clockwise Music through an association with Mike Stephens who hosts a podcast in Wayne, MI. Producer Mark Meisel heard the track 'Renegade' on Mike's podcast and became interested in contacting Tim.

That's how the story begins. The rest, as they say, is history. The collaboration between Tim Young Band; Tim Young, rhythm guitar and lead vocals; and Sand Edwards, drums; and all involved from Counter Clockwise has been, in my humble opinion, a smashing success.

How I Feel About It :

We reviewed Di Evantile's Inertia last December and I remember thinking that Beatrice Clarke went a little easy on it. It seemed a little too Animatronics, too machine-like and the keyboard sounds seemed too cheesy and overused. Even if it was superbly orchestrated (and some of it well-played) it sounded a bit hollow and soulless to me. So imagine my surprise when I drew Infrared Clock to review. I thought, "Here's an excellent chance to set the record straight." But Di Evantile changed some things, and for the better.

This album is dreamy and trance inducing. It's the perfect music to go to sleep to, without actually inducing sleep. There's something at once modern and primeval about it, and it urges the listener to dream on an epic scale without requiring epic amounts of energy to do it. This isn't a work that I will ever feel passionately about because it's only interested in the passion of dreams, which are usually distan

Recently I settled myself down to watch the PBS program Nature. This particular documentary was entitled “Lobo, The Wolf That Changed America.” Telling the story of the bounty hunter Ernest Thompson Seton and his battles with Lobo, the “King of the Currumpaw,” this episode promised to be interesting, if not a little depressing as well. Now I’m not an idiot savant. You give me a hunter armed with guns, arsenic-tainted meat and leg hold traps and I pretty much get the idea where this story is going. I might not like it, but I do know where this story is going.

Everything was proceeding as I expected up to the point where Mr. Seton shoots and kills Lobo’s mate, the lovely Blanca, when suddenly this sad, sappy Celtic music started oozing from the speakers. I forced myself to sit through this musical weeping and just prayed that it wouldn’t get worse. Of course, it did. After using Blanca’s body as a lure, Mr. Seton finally traps Lobo. He hauls the wo

Entre Dunes Et Savanes Desert Blues 3 (Network, 2008)

I have often wondered whether there is a correlation between music and landscape, physical landscape and type of music it induces. War and destruction certainly pass off their influence onto music, but can a particular landscape in the way it is perceived in the human mind result in a particular kind of music? Is the way one travels across the landscape an influence on the music produced? Could the size of an open sky create a particular genre? I’d like to say that I know the answer to this or that there is an enthnomusicological study out there that proves the point, but, sadly, I have no real answer. I was thinking on these questions as I was listening to the double-CD set Entre Dunes Et Savanes Desert Blues 3. Beyond the basic framework of the blues or the shared tragedies of war, poverty, oppression and deprivation of these musicians, there is a nebulous quality that ties all this glorious music together. : This Mobile Device Only Does Email — Perfectly Not every gadget needs a carnival of features. Take the Peek, which tackles just a single task: mobile email. No phone, no browser, no camera—and no apologies. It won't satisfy convergence-rabid smartphone fetishists, but for the rest of the world (i.e., the majority of it), this one-trick pony is a godsend. In terms of looks, its slim profile stands up to the big boys. But the real treat is the interface. Instead of forcing you to wrestle with laborious setup menus, the Peek asks for a name, email address, and password. That's it. Message from your Comcast.net account? Done. Gmail, Hotmail, and other webmail accounts? No sweat. Peek has an army of techies behind the curtain to handle the digital diplomacy that makes their device work flawlessly with every major email purveyor — and quite a few minor ones. It runs on T-Mobile's massive cellular network, so even the most itinerant technophobe can use it on the go. —Terrence Russell

HACKERS VS THE MATRIX - MOVIE NIGHT Grooveeffect

If you're in or near Chicago, be sure to stop by this event tomorrow night. Hackers, while pretty much comically inaccurate with regards to 'real' hacking, is still a fun ride that captures some of the vibe of mid 90's NYC. The rave scene was starting to really blow up, the web was new, and it all came together in the happy go lucky mid to late 90's. Get yourself a taste, especially if you're too young to have actually been there (it makes me feel old to think this was nearly 14 years back). ... READ MORE >>

Number 2 World ranked freerunner Livewire in action with Venetian Snares - Szamar Madar soundtrack:

My parkour days may have been over before they ever really started (I was a gymnast and trampolinist in my youth) but I have to say I hold my hat up to the free runners. Sebastian Foucan's appearance in Casino Royale is, imho, the greatest foot chase in action cinema history.

I was in a taxi a couple of years ago with the driver who drove Foucan around the UK when Channel 4 filmed Jump Britain. He told me about his restlessness and boundless energy. He would get up a stupid hours of the morning to go free-running where ever he was before he could bare to be contained to a car.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, here's Steven Seagal running:
