Mzaza, a Brisbane based 6 piece, plays a passionate mix of French, Spanish, Balkan, Turkish and Arabic traditional and original music with exotic instruments including darabuka (percussion), kamanche (middle-eastern spike-fiddle), ney (turkish flute), kaval (Balkan flute) and double-bass. French-Moroccan front woman Pauline Maudy sings in French, Spanish, Ladino and Turkish. She is known for her passion and captivating on-stage energy. Pauline grew up in Paris listening to flamenco and dancing to North African music. She met her future Mzaza counterparts in Brisbane's West End and together they have created Mzaza's special blend of sounds. The Alley Cat Show will feature extended stopovers in traditional Balkan villages, bars where Turkish military brass musicians stop for a raki (aniseed drink), and towns where gypsy street bands capture your heart. Lenny's musical career began in the mid-1960s when he was 17, and it is still going strong today. In 1964 Lenny formed a classic rock band called The Trailblazers for which he was the lead singer and rhythm guitarist. On their first tour of U.S. military bases in Europe some fans introduced the band to the Motown sound, and Lenny was hooked! He'd found his niche. Between 1974 and 1981, Lenny was the lead singer with Gonzalez, who were known as the Earth, Wind and Fire/Tower of Power of the U.K. They toured with Bob Marley and the Wailers, KC and the Sunshine Band, and The Fat Black Band on their European tours. It was Lenny's electric energy and artistry in Gonzalez that first attracted the attention of Alan Parsons. Twenty years after ensemblebash burst onto the scene, the percussion quartet returns to London to present a retrospective of the last two decades. An exciting journey into the south of Spain. Spanish guitars, lightning fast feet, complex rythyms and passion to invoke your senses in a sensational night of flamenco. Tamayo proudly presents some of the finest Australian talent in this art form. Presenting traditional songs, dance and guitar compositions. At the end of the performance the audience will be invited to participate in an introduction workshop of handclapping (palmas), footstomping (tacaneo), dancing (baile) and singing (cante) with the artists.
