In the news piece it was discovered that Fluorooctanoic Acid was shown to be in high levels in microwave popcorn bags. Fluorooctanoic Acid, which is added to the microwave-popcorn bags as a resistant coating, releases onto the popcorn when the bag is heated up and is then absorbed into the bloodstream and stays there for a long time. This chemical appears to be carcinogenic in lab animals. The FDA is now studying the affects of this chemical in greater detail.

Maybe pop-folk? Pop-indie? Whatever it is, the pop most certainly comes first, but that's not to say it's all sugary cheer and no substance.The album kicks off with '13', a chilled, dreamy tune with nice layers and interesting rhythm - just enough to make you listen but not enough to catch you off guard. The second track on the album, 'WTKN', kick-starts the mood a little more with a funky riff and plenty of Tribella's signature reverb. The lyrics are poppy but clever, and the music is... well, actually, it's excellent. Toe-tapping, dance-y stuff.The album loses momentum somewhat towards the middle with 'Skate Park Instrumental' which seems like a bit of a filler song, but Tribella are soon rescued by the lovely tinkle of 'Rev Script', all crystal-clear riffs and breathy vocals. Well I guess it's now officially terminable since the San Diego band finally released the album this week.Since many of these tunes have been kicking around the interwebs for months, if not over a year, there's an instant familiarity with the record. Anyone who has heard the band from their previous days as The Muslims (what were they thinking?) will not be the least bit surprised by the propulsive guitar rock and big hooks found here.Fast and melodic is right in The Soft Pack's wheelhouse. The catchy "C'Mon", the propulsive "Answer To Yourself" and the slick "More Or Less" all find the near-perfect balance point between power and musicality.Lots of bands do the power pop thing, so it's important that The Soft Pack do something to differentiate themselves. On January 26th the pair return with their third effort, Teen Dream.Beach House have become known for their wafting, distorted pop music. They have incorporated styles of shoegazer and dream pop into a sound of their own. But that's the biggest problem with Teen Dream. The band seem content to straddle genre lines. On songs like the interminable "Silver Soul" they appear afraid to commit to any one style. That results in songs that are desperately lacking in soul. The contrived, restrained nature of a track like "Norway" has the listener almost begging for an amp to explode or a string to break or some other divine intervention to jerk Beach House out of their apparently comfortable rut.There are some respites from their heavily diluted My Bloody Valentine-meets-Mercury Rev impression.
