| | | Blog Entry | Recent Headlines for Guild Wars GoldThe latest edition of the State of the Game wow gold series of articles about the art of PvP in Guild Wars gold has been posted on the Guild Wars official site. This week the focus is on Hero Battles. Although Hero Battles are a relatively new venture in Guild Wars, they have matured rapidly since their inception. One could argue that implementing the 1v1 ladder and placing top Hero Battles on Observer Mode have rapidly developed the metagame for Hero Battles. Although many players would claim those features have stagnated Hero Battles, they have also generated more interest in this new form of PvP.Going into a Hero Battle, a player needs a different frame of mind than other forms of PvP. Much like Alliance Battles, most effective characters in Hero Battles need a degree of self-sufficiency. Players tend not to bring a build balanced for 4v4 play because 4v4 battle occurs infrequently. If one of the players does not want to fight 4v4, it simply won't happen. Instead, Read More... |

| | | Blog Entry | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Nashville, TN--October 3, 2005--Who knew that this country singer was really a closet chanteuse? Dyann Woody makes a seamless transition from 'Yee Haw' to 'Ooh La La'. She not only has the voice of an angelic siren, but what will amaze you even more is just how easy and pleasing her music is to listen to. She reaches across many genres and meshes elements of '70's singer/songwriter style, jazz, blues and pop with the art of a well-crafted lyric. Although this is Dyann's first solo album, she has shared musical success with her husband as part of the Country Music Group, The Woodys. Their debut album on Rounder Records went #1 on the Americana charts; they were voted the Top County Vocal Duo at the International Music News Awards and have received worldwide critical acclaim for all three of their albums. However, there was still a part of Dyann that was musically unfulfilled. She wanted to write songs that expressed all of the emotions and experiences that she and other women h Read More... |

| | Music Emissions Alternative Music Reviews | Syndicated | 'Thirteen' is Tribella's second release, following on from their debut EP (released last year) and it's an odd blend of something that is certainly pop but also something else - not pop-rock, not pop-punk. Maybe pop-folk? Pop-indie? Whatever it is, the pop most certainly comes first, but that's not to say it's all sugary cheer and no substance. The album kicks off with '13', a chilled, dreamy tune with nice layers and interesting rhythm - just enough to make you listen but not enough to catch you off guard. The second track on the album, 'WTKN', kick-starts the mood a little more with a funky riff and plenty of Tribella's signature reverb. The lyrics are poppy but clever, and the music is... well, actually, it's excellent. Toe-tapping, dance-y stuff. The album loses momentum somewhat towards the middle with 'Skate Park Instrumental' which seems like a bit of a filler song, but Tribella are soon rescued by the lovely tinkle of 'Rev Script', all crystal-clear riffs and breathy vocals. | | Music Emissions Alternative Music Reviews | Syndicated | It's not quite Chinese Democracy but it feels like the wait for The Soft Pack's debut self-titled album has been interminable. Well I guess it's now officially terminable since the San Diego band finally released the album this week.Since many of these tunes have been kicking around the interwebs for months, if not over a year, there's an instant familiarity with the record. Anyone who has heard the band from their previous days as The Muslims (what were they thinking?) will not be the least bit surprised by the propulsive guitar rock and big hooks found here.Fast and melodic is right in The Soft Pack's wheelhouse. The catchy "C'Mon", the propulsive "Answer To Yourself" and the slick "More Or Less" all find the near-perfect balance point between power and musicality.Lots of bands do the power pop thing, so it's important that The Soft Pack do something to differentiate themselves. It's not enough to have catchy tunes anymore. The boys have a few tricks up their sleeves. | | Music Emissions Alternative Music Reviews | Syndicated | Over the course of their first two full length albums, the Beach House duo of Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand have built up a very loyal following for themselves. On January 26th the pair return with their third effort, Teen Dream.Beach House have become known for their wafting, distorted pop music. They have incorporated styles of shoegazer and dream pop into a sound of their own. But that's the biggest problem with Teen Dream. The band seem content to straddle genre lines. On songs like the interminable "Silver Soul" they appear afraid to commit to any one style. That results in songs that are desperately lacking in soul. The contrived, restrained nature of a track like "Norway" has the listener almost begging for an amp to explode or a string to break or some other divine intervention to jerk Beach House out of their apparently comfortable rut. There are some respites from their heavily diluted My Bloody Valentine-meets-Mercury Rev impression. The piano part on "Used To Be" sets up a misty pop piec north carolina rnb pop gooney gang wabejon radio rap billboard bet vh1 jay z beyonce kanye west drake Read More... |
| | Music Emissions Alternative Music Reviews | Syndicated | With all of the hub-bub that surrounds OK Go's clever videos it is easy to overlook that these boys know how to pen some catchy power pop songs. Don't fret though, you won't have to worry about overlooking them on their new album Of the Colour of the Sky, because they aren't there in the first place. Some bands you expect to experiment and push boundaries from album to album. You are intrigued to hear what Radiohead, The Flaming Lips, or Animal Collective have come up with. Others, like Matthew Sweet, Fountains Of Wayne, and yes OK Go, you look forward to the comfort of familiarity. You know what you're getting when you go in, and that makes you feel good.So when OK Go offers up an album like this that strays from the hook-filled pop rock you expected, you react vehemently. You shiver as you listen to the cluttered mess of "Needing/Getting" and other songs that sound like Flaming Lips gone horribly wrong. You know how great and catchy OK Go's songwriting can be. | | Music Emissions Alternative Music Reviews | Syndicated | Brooklyn's indie-rock trio, Yeasayer, have garnered media attention ever since their critically lauded debut, All Hour Cymbals, caught ears in 2007. Following their debut, the band almost immediately transcended small indie circles and reached worldwide audiences; even a clip of them practicing was aired on MTV-during the commercials, of course, when MTV pretends to still care about music. After a painstaking wait, Yeasayer's second album, Odd Blood, seems to cater more to such expansive audiences, honing the subtle pop influences heard on their previous album. Their tremendously catchy single, "Ambling Alp," exemplifies this dramatic change of style; this does not sound like the same band that was booming portentous waves of sound on the Sabbath-esque "Waiting for the Wintertime." The sunny polyrhythm of "Ambling Alp" suggests a departure from the wintry elements of their debut, embracing blipping keyboards, electronic fuzz, and aural idiosyncrasies, like the splashing of water at the track's inception. | | Thermostat | Syndicated | Melbourne-based band Denim Owl represents the alternate guise of Janita Foley and Aleks Bryant of Aleks and The Ramps fame and sees them veering away from the indie rock stylings of their ‘main’ group, instead venturing out into dreamy downtempo pop coloured with the haze of reverb and vintage keyboards/electronics. This debut five track EP on Dan Lewis’ Special Award label represents their first recorded output, following their national tour last November as support to Maximo Park. From the very outset here, there’s certainly an emphasis on textural lushness whether in the case of Foley’s vocals, which come coated with an almost Hope Sandoval-esque level of gauzy reverb, or in the case of the ‘kitchen sink’ approach to instrumentation, which sees kalimba and even a choir making an appearance on the delicate, Spanish guitar-tinged ‘Kitten Gloves.’ Opening track ‘Fantasy Dog Sled With A Man’s Head’ certainly aptly sets the scene, with ret north carolina rnb pop gooney gang wabejon radio rap billboard bet vh1 jay z beyonce kanye west drake Read More... |
