Event
Sunday, 27th July 2008

Hopetoun Hotel, 416 Bourke St, Surry Hills

Sundays at The Hoey, brought to you by Secluded Records Bands tbc

$6 Entry, Plenty of Drinks

In 2008, we think sunday should be live music day.

Not big name touring live music, but grassroots, independant music. The up and coming stuff, before it gets huge. Where it still has that virginal excitement. And Secluded Sundays is just the thing...

Run by independent label Secluded Records, we showcase the best of what Sydney has to offer at the Hopetoun Hotel and give everyone the perfect way to round off the week - a solid line up of an array of independant artists playing their goddamed hearts out. It's what Australian Music is all about, so come and watch the new generation of artists doing what they love. We kick off around 4pm and bands finish at 10, so if you're one of those 'employed' types, you can even get a good nights sleep. How thoughtful of us.

Breakcore/Hardcore/Industrial show. Gabber + Amens = Hardcore inasinty Synthamesk , Oxygenfad,Chainsawtooth, Helico Bacter,Mithra This will be a display of the best electronic musicians on the east coast. Their production skills are beyond what you normally would expect. From all styles, but mostly ranging in the area of GLITCH and fast break beats.

If you like the frantic sounds of Aphextwin or the new evolved gabber/drum and bass sounds of Europe, then you must come out to see this show.

The performers are well known over seas but due to a lack of knowledge here in Canada, their music is over shadowed by commercialized clothing store "beats".

A quick google search will lead you to various vinyl and accomplishments of the artists on the bill.

This is a MUST SEE show.

Jaime had returned to Jersey having graduated, top of her class from the top of her class, from The Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. Jaime went on to record some of Sally’s songs and March 2006 Sally was promoting Jaime singing her songs and HMV Jersey was selling Jaime’s CD. By April 2006 Sally seemed to be attracting other bands, artists and songwriters all wanting to be heard and EDM4MUSIC had arrived! EDM now promote artistes from Jersey, London, Derby, The Algarve, Australia and now The Cameroons with the addition of the young band Elexir who are writing their own material. “My original thinking behind creating EDM4MUSIC was to promote Jersey’s young, emerging talent with Jaime and Off Limits in mind, but without advertising we are now promoting 13 artists/ba

Roller Derby was revived a few years ago in the United States and is now taking off in popularity all over the world. "The sport these days is a bit different to what many people may remember from the 70's and 80's. It has less over the top theatrics and features a strategic game on quad roller skates with a bit of a punk aesthetic." Chyna Rhino explains, "We follow the rules set by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association in America. It isn't just about knocking down as many girls as possible."

Girls are also encouraged to dress up in crazy outfits and take on a pseudonym to fit their team persona. "In the Northern Brisbane Rollers we

In the beginning there was... the Munich Music Machine: when Giorgio Moroder entered the US billboard charts in 1977 with Donna Summers erotic epos titled, "I Feel Love", a new music style was born. A combination of influences from Motown + Philly Soul to German Electronica + Kraut Rock Giorgio Moroder helped shape a new sound, a sound that still can be considered as one of the blueprints for todays electronic dance music: the bass drum + bass sound with repetitive synthesizer loops as still used in thousands of techno and house productions today.

The new sound of the Munich machine soon became mainstream, "Saturday Night Fever" was the last call of the kitschy hedonistic Disco before New Wave + Punk became the soundtrack of the urban Hipsters across Western Europe. Underground Disco Culture like in NYC`s THE LOFT or the PARADISE GARAGE hardly caught on in Europe. With the exception of the Northern Soul scene in the UK or Danielle Baldellis pre-cosmic music club nights at Baia degli Angeli in Italy, dan

Seor Coconut, the man of a thousand aliases, has struck again and amazed everyone once more. Following "El Baile Alemn" (dedicated to the German Electro pioneers Kraftwerk), "Fiesta Songs" (a joyful collection of popular songs including "Smooth Operator", "Beat It", "Smoke on the Water") and "Yellow Fever" (a tribute to his Japanese fellow musicians of the Yellow Magic Orchestra) here comes his fourth trick, which the musical knight of the Order of the Coconut has worked on for almost a year in real and virtual studios. "Around the World" would actually be a simple pop album if it was not for el Seor, alias Atom: he is just not interested in the easy route! If you are going to cover the pearls of international pop, you really have to contribute a powerful idea of your own. And you know you've made it when the musicians you are covering themselves take part in the recording, as the three members of the Yellow Magic Orchestra, Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi and Oscar and Grammy winner Ryuichi Sakamoto, d

fabric 41 ArtworkLike symbiosis, like the yin and yang, like your left and right hands, there is something both so free and passionate, yet also so technological, somewhat clinical, even precise and methodical about Luciano's music which onlookers always suggest is a reaction to him moving from Switzerland to Santiago, Chile when he was about 11 or 12. The suggestion that his music is directly correlated to those worlds colliding is not necessarily obtuse. Some parts minimal, deep techno and scientific electro, some parts southern rhythms and colourful melodies, making the identity of his music especially soulful as it seeps from a more alkaline space.

"My father used to fix juke boxes for a living so we had many, many records. A lot of disco, some French music, a lot of the hits, but the good hits! We had a lot of music at home, always. Neither of my parents were musicians but they loved music. My mother gave me a guitar when I was younger, that's when I first started to get into music. She gave it

The Dop has hit me up with a meme. I'm always unsure about what to do with these. Fraser Lewry over at Blogjam would point out that this is "merely hapless blog sewage ... that makes my hopeless shitsack of a website look up-to-date."

On the other hand, I'm quite interested in the transfer of memes, the way ideas pass from generation to generation. The idea of memes themselves is a perfect example. Richard Dawkin's popularised the idea in The Selfish Gene, where they were used as a literary example of how collective memory is transferred in a way similar to biological genes (hence the cumbersome rhyme). He then stood back and watch from the sidelines as others ran with the idea, analysing everything from religion and folk music to humour and fashion from this perspective. There are now books dedicated to meme theory itself.

This meme is not one of those ideas. It's one of the "fill in the blanks" exercises, no more interesting than a chain letter, which might tell the reader something about my personal lif

Crass were an English anarchist punk rock band, formed in 1977 which promoted anarchism as a political ideology, way of living, and as a resistance movement. Crass popularized the seminal anarcho-punk movement and advocated direct action, animal rights, and environmentalism. The band used the "Do It Yourself" approach to produce sound collages, graphics, albums and films. Crass also criticized and attempted to subvert the dominant culture with messages promoting feminism, anti-racism, anti-war, and anti-globalization.

Crass practiced their "direct action" philosophy by spray-painting stencilled graffiti messages around the London Underground system and on advertising billboards, coordinating squats, and organising political action. The band also expressed its ideals by dressing in black, military surplus-style clothing and using a stage backdrop which amalgamated several "icons of authority" including the Christian Cross, the swastika and the Union Flag.

L7 was formed by Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner on shared electric guitar and shared vocals. A year previous, Gardner had performed backing vocals on the Black Flag song "Slip It In". The punk rock duo were soon joined by Jennifer Finch on bass guitar and Roy Koutsky on drums. Koutsky left shortly after and Demetra Plakas ("Dee" for short) became their permanent drummer.

The band took its name from a 1950s slang phrase meaning "square," but is often mistaken as a reference to the sex position, "69". The slang phrase "L7" can be heard in the classic Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs song "Wooly Bully" ("Let's not be L7, come and learn to dance..."), and in the Rick James song "Bustin' Out" ("L7- just a little too damn straight...").

Operation Ivy (2 hits) Geeks Shower Gateway | Image Mine

Op Ivy, short for Operation Ivy, was a punk band from near-Berkeley California. They were Jesse (vocal), Lint (guitar), Matt (bass), and Dave (drum). Later, they got Pat and Paul for the horn section (even tho i think they're not official members).

The band started in 1987 and ended in 1989, after playing over 180+ shows. They broke up right before they produced their first album (which was actually a tape, not a CD), and later titled Energy. The music is about non-conformity, thinking for yourself, fun, etc etc (you gotta check it out yourself). Most of the songs are ska (without horn), but there are some punkrock too (like Sleep Long and Hoboken).
