'One To Watch' - Tilllate

Michael Morph has been busy readying his much-anticipated album for Pure Mint, and here is the leadoff single Go Cat Go!.

Built around a mirth-making robotic voice intoning the familiar lyric from rock 'n' roll standard, 'Blue Suede Shoes', this catchy fidgety electro cut almost recalls Daft Punk in its skilful use of a simple-yet-deadly computerised vocal. With plenty of freaky noises and an absurdly infectious pitching bassline to satisfy the headz, this is a welcome return to the fray from somebody tipped by all the dance press as a DJ/producer to watch.

Both artists/producers met two years ago at VRSTCK Club in Dortmund‐City

(Germany). Ever since Uemit Han and Tim Dicke have been working together to

create and develop a special live‐performance as well as a "realtime production

style" that both describe as "Alternative Techno".

Tim Dicke has paved his way into the electronic scene through being a drummer,

bassist and solo artist in Punk and Hardcore bands in the 90s and later on as a

DJ, while Uemit Han has been working as a DJ for the last 15 years including 9

years of music production experience. In 2006, Uemit won the remix contest to

Gabriel Ananda's "Gluecksmelodie" and also released tracks on Karmarouge,

Meerestief, Harthouse and other labels.

I don't know how this band isn't massive. Actually, I do. Over Stars & Gutters takes a Samiam template and goes with it. Samiam was one of those melodic punk bands that had something special and even had a shot on a major label. Clumsy was the album out on Atlantic and even though it ended up being a classic it hardly sold. Regardless, the band remains to be an influence in the punk world today, as is obvious when one listens to Over Stars & Gutters. These guys have the melodic punk with an edge down pat. Fantastic chugga chugga guitar break-downs with great sing along choruses.This Oklahoma based band has strong similarity with Hot Water Music as well, another quality melodic punk band. Some of the songs like "Never Again" are just begging for fans to scream out lyrics at live shows.Not only is their debut, Consider This Curse a good document of decent punk musicianship but it is well produced as well. It's taken me quite some time to finally get to listening to MXPX's newest offering, On The Cover II. I had pretty much dismissed the band. They were kind of on hiatus for a while with Mike Herrera having his little side project, Tumbledown but this cover album shows that the band still have the chops and enjoy having a bit of fun with some old classics.First off, if you like albums like those offered up by Me First and the Gimme Gimme's and other strictly cover punk albums/bands then find On The Cover II right away.
