"The living, breathing epitome of the sound of sunset"-DJ Mag
This month One World Music invites you to spend a hour or so immersed in the down tempo grandeur of Afterlife's beautiful artist album, 'Speck Of Gold', the which followed up to the 40,000 selling 'Simplicity 2000'.
Originally released on the defunct Bar de Lune label this album sold 10,000 copies in just one month before it was officially deleted and made unavailable. Now repackaged and featuring additional mixes this timeless CD is finally available across Australia and New Zealand.
The charmingly horizontal Steve 'Afterlife' Miller has delivered a fine 17 track opus. Cathy Battistessa opens proceedings with the title track and fuses her balmy vocals into its minimal electronica. Afterlife favorite Rachael Calladine lends a lenitive chant to 'Clear Blue Sky', and then it's over to the dubby baggy-bubblings of 'Like Prana', a track born of Steve's Reggae/Northern roots | Read More... 2 Years of Progressive Grooves Records - 2 YEars of Progressive Grooves Records

Whatever one could say about Hills Rolling, the moniker of one-man band Trey McGriff, you can't accuse him of having shallow roots. On his myspace page he lists as influences about one hundred or so bands and musicians. There are old schoolers (Otis Redding, The Beatles, Pink Floyd), new schoolers ( The Killers, My Morning Jacket), tweeners (Nirvana, Dinosaur, Jr.) electro types (The Cure, Depeche Mode) and eclecticians like him (Beastie Boys, Beck). No doubt this is in part a smart-ass commentary on the "what are your influences" question. It is also a list of people he has most likely listened to and is another way of saying that all the music he has heard, or for that matter, everything he has been through, is recorded by the brain, swished around by time, and reflected in his songs. Loves, hates, sounds, tastes, it's all in your head. Musically and lyrically, this message comes through loud and clear on his CD Sweet Tea.
With all this in his musical blender, he has co Read More... MIND OVER MATTER NEW ALBUM | | Label/Distributor: Nurcha Records

Here we go again. Halfway through the slush pile, tossing 'em aside like pancakes at a Little League fundraiser, and allofasudden whoooaaa Nellie. Hang on, we got us a keeper.
Peter Bloom is a singer-songwriter who learned all the right lessons from John, George, Ringo and especially Paul - not to mention Elton John and John (Five For Fighting) Ondrasik. This is simply gorgeous piano/orchestral-based pop, carried to the next level by Bloom's insightful lyrics and full-bodied melodic sensibilities.
"Let It Go" is a knockout opener, a mid-tempo plea for resolution whose jangly guitar, thrumming organ and keening string accents help Bloom build to a soaring, affecting climax that sums up everything a good ballad should be.
The orchestral flourishes that open and color the fringes of "Walls" could have been lifted from Revolver, but weren't; these are original confections using familiar Read More... Just when we have them all figured out as agit-prop electro propagandists they go and drop a brand new CD-EP the title track of which (City) is an electro-power ballad. And a strangely affecting and even touching electro-power ballad at that. Don't they know that electronic bands are meant to just make the same record and over and over again? Sheeesh. This could really upset the apple cart.
And what's with those new collaborations with those denizens of the dubstep deep Monster Zoku Onsomb? Are they weird but kinda catchy or what? And Thrussell (if it really is Thrussell?) now he sounds a bit like a mutant Berlin cabaret singer from the 1920s over an elastic mashed-up beat. This really is too much.
And then they bring out the remixes, The Calculator's svelte dancefloor killer, Curse Ov Dialect's straight-up insanity and to top it off right near the end of the record there is some guy sounds like he is singing songs around a camp fire to a bunch of Girl Guides.

'Jimmy Recard' is the magnetic first single from 'Brothers Grimm', the 3rd album from acclaimed West Australian MC Drapht.
If a name is the first thing we inherit upon entering this world, it must surely play a critical role in the determination of who we become. In 'Jimmy Recard' Drapht reflects on what could have been had he not been christened "plain old, boring old Paul". FSOM (Melbourne, Australia) The triad collectively known as Future Sound Of Melbourne brought together the diverse talents of Davide Carbone, Josh Abrahams and Steve Robbins. Their first release in the early 90's has put them in the top five placing in the UK Mix Mag's dance chart. The act had received contracts from Sony Music (Australia), Carl Cox and Volume Records (UK), Frank De Wulf and Sony Music (Belgium), Trancemaster (Germany), Underground Resistance and AXIS (USA). For the past decade FSOM have been at the forefront of underground electronic music in Australia. They have performed Live at hundreds of raves, festivals, and events around Australia.

Zen Paradox started back in 1991 as a solo outlet for Steve Law's more techno-oriented works, and he shaped up as one of Melbourne's principle live acts, playing at big warehouse rave parties like Every Picture Tells A Story, Hardware and Omniglobe, as well as more experimental smaller gigs and some TOTEM parties in Sydney.
Corrosive Artifacts is Zen Paradox's first release on Sydney Netlabel Elektrax Recordings, after having previously released tracks on Nova Zembla, Psy-Harmonics, IF? and Solitary Sound.
These tracks are Steve's more up-tempo, mad acid compositions, dating from the 1990s - and still essential, timely tracks.

My immediate response to 'Inertia' was, "Oh no, digital pitter-patter, this is going to be boring; all the sampled midi stuff is not really music anyway." Then, right about the time I decided to put aside my often stuffy, somewhat elitist attitudes regarding the conventions of musical expression - you know, acoustical instruments, the sound of human fingers across metal or nylon strings, the nuances and timbres present in the fiber of skin covered drums, the natural decay of volume following a cymbal crash or the subtle overtones the ear discerns lofting from the metal alloys - I began to get drawn into a kind of haunting pull from this composer's expression.
As I listened, I realized I was responding from a primal place. This composer has found an effective basis of form and expression that corresponds with human emotion. I do find that interesting considering the aural medium is digitall | Read More... Karina Eames featured on the Sin Masters new CDSin Masters from Finland have a new CD out 'Innocence Lost'. Debut CD: Say it Straight
'The What 4', Adelaide's new, experimental rock band have just released their debut, full-length CD, 'Say it Straight'.
The band members, from diverse backgrounds, combine their experience and talent to produce a unique, melodic and innovative groove.
Previous/current projects include: Martire, Free Moving Curtis, Beltane and Lankey.
While focusing on dynamics and a simple formula, the band is driven by a fluid rhythm section, atmospheric synthesizers, emotive guitars, satin vocals and sound effects.
After generating interest through live performance over the last few months, the band were surprised when local alternative radio station '3D' responded with plenty of airplay, sending 'The What 4' to No.1 on their weekly chart twice this year.

by Mark Kirby,
The picture on the front of her CD Cover to Cover shows singer songwriter Julie Moffitt covered with a bed sheet and smiling unselfconsciously at the viewer. This image, in its simple honesty, is appropriate for her CD. In addition to recording original material, Moffitt decided to include songs by other artists that she loves and have inspired her. Indeed, all people learn by imitating others and for artists it is even more important. As the great Salvador Dali once said, "Those who do not want to imitate anything, produce nothing."
The songs she chose to cover, and the way she plays them, with nuance and deep emotion that doesn't come in a can, shows that she has been around for a while. With an interest in classical music (Chopin) and art rock (Kansas, Emerson Lake and Palmer) going back to her childhood days in the '70s, her music is another example of how there is nothing magical about youth culture in music. No disrespect to Alicia Keys and Corinne Bailey Rae, but you Read More...
