Deep 1 EP kicks off with DJ Hi-Shock Remix, and as you would expect, Hi-Shock blatantly feels right at home remixing a track with such atmosphere. The track starts by building on the atmosphere created in the original with more useful reverb and effective panning, opening the stereo field. Movement is created with kick drum pattern variations before the introduction of the Hi-Shock trademark arrpegiated bass line that really takes this track up a notch or two. Perfect for the transition into putting the dancefloor to work.

Deep 1 Original Mix is s a sound scape of phasing percussion and delayed warm pads layered on top of a kick and hi hat combination that keeps this deep little number chugging along. A nice use of reverb really creates the space desired here in a track that would not be out of place on a Code Red Compilation back in the day.

Lifted from their 'No Rest' album released in May 08, independent Hip Hop/ Rock eight piece Casual Projects emerge from the nations capital with their oh so catchy third single 'Time'. Having grabbed the attention of radio and TV with their first two singles earlier this year, there is no doubt that 'Time' will be hot property in the tick of a clock.

Setting the bench-mark high, Casual Projects' first single 'Move Along' earned the band a position as one of the winners of the International Songwriting Competition in the top 15 songs of the pop category ahead of 15,000 others. It then went on to be selected as a Rage 'Indie Clip of the Week' and was flogged by Channel V on their 'New Stock' show. The band took their show on the road between April and July doing twenty-six shows including a sell-out performance in Canberra attended by 600 die-hard fans.

The party was a terrific celebration of over a year's hard work. Recording began on the album during March of 2007. Tim had located the independent production team of Counter Clockwise Music through an association with Mike Stephens who hosts a podcast in Wayne, MI. Producer Mark Meisel heard the track 'Renegade' on Mike's podcast and became interested in contacting Tim.

That's how the story begins. The rest, as they say, is history. The collaboration between Tim Young Band; Tim Young, rhythm guitar and lead vocals; and Sand Edwards, drums; and all involved from Counter Clockwise has been, in my humble opinion, a smashing success.

2008 LP Say It Straight

Experimental rock band The What 4 has delivered their debut full-length album Say It Straight. With such diverse sounds on the one release, it's no wonder they have been busy playing and getting some air time on Three D Radio. The What 4 are Jo Herbert on guitar and vocals, Frank Usmiani on bass, Wil Martin on drums and Paul Handley on synthesizers. Say It Straight is full of mind blowing sounds and effects, coming together nicely to produce a very stable record.

Rolling bass starts 'Science Fiction' which kicks the album into gear, and already it's into blazing synth and a guitar lick that tops this song off nicely. In 'Highbrow' the build up is worth the wait for the swelling, throbbing heart of the song. It's here you get the first taste of Herbert's womanly vocals and they are matured and somewhat sultry.

Deriving influence from the likes of Killing Joke, Primus, The Necks, Front Line Assembly, Sonic Youth and Mars Volta, The What 4 are Adelaide's freshest experimental rock outfit to explode onto our local music scene. Having recently released their debut album, Say It Straight, Paul Handley, the band's synthesiser operator, invites Rip It Up into their world of instrumental and novel quirky sound and dynamic musical scope while pondering the concept of cover bands

"If you're a cover band, you might get some nice well paid shows at the Hyatt or whatever, but you can't sell CDs because it's not your music!" he begins. "We might play a few daggy pubs and stuff but there's a chance that people will get familiar with our music then and they can buy [it] we've always concentrated on playing originals, we're not big on cover bands and stuff!"

And original they are. Paul along with Jo, Will and Frank have some fairly specific and strategic notions for The What 4's overall effect.

Just letting you know that today we released our brand new remix compilation, with remixes by Si Begg, Tobias Schmidt, Tokyo techno bod Captain Funk, Jason Leach from Subhead, Steve Cobby from Fila Brazillia, Toshiyuki Yasuda (ex-Fantastic Plastic Machine), plus a wad of Japanese and Australian producers, including Melburnians Pat Stormont and Isnod.

The compilation is titled "Little Nobody presents SLAM-DUNK NINJA: The Perspicacious Remix Selection" (rather long-winded, we know!!), and there are 18 tracks in all, veering from electro to crack house, on into glitch/techno and IDM, and departures toward hip hop.

Whatever one could say about Hills Rolling, the moniker of one-man band Trey McGriff, you can't accuse him of having shallow roots. On his myspace page he lists as influences about one hundred or so bands and musicians. There are old schoolers (Otis Redding, The Beatles, Pink Floyd), new schoolers ( The Killers, My Morning Jacket), tweeners (Nirvana, Dinosaur, Jr.) electro types (The Cure, Depeche Mode) and eclecticians like him (Beastie Boys, Beck). No doubt this is in part a smart-ass commentary on the "what are your influences" question. It is also a list of people he has most likely listened to and is another way of saying that all the music he has heard, or for that matter, everything he has been through, is recorded by the brain, swished around by time, and reflected in his songs. Loves, hates, sounds, tastes, it's all in your head. Musically and lyrically, this message comes through loud and clear on his CD Sweet Tea.

Peter Bloom is a singer-songwriter who learned all the right lessons from John, George, Ringo and especially Paul - not to mention Elton John and John (Five For Fighting) Ondrasik. This is simply gorgeous piano/orchestral-based pop, carried to the next level by Bloom's insightful lyrics and full-bodied melodic sensibilities.

"Let It Go" is a knockout opener, a mid-tempo plea for resolution whose jangly guitar, thrumming organ and keening string accents help Bloom build to a soaring, affecting climax that sums up everything a good ballad should be.

Dan England first came to wider knowledge by placing fourth in 2005's Australian Idol contest. After spending 2006 as support for Shannon Noll and doing his own east coast run, Dan proved himself not only to be talented singer, but also an accomplished musician and songwriter. In late 2006, the release of Dan's debut single 'Reason to Fly' was warmly received by radio around the country. Dan's debut EP includes tracks co-written with Tim Henwood (Super Jesus and Rogue Traders) and Jellyfish music (Pulp and George ) who combined forces to produce his debut release which climbed to number five on Itunes and AIR (Australian independent) charts. The success of Dan's debut single 'Reason to Fly' saw it used as a part of the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) internal 2007 campaign. Dan’s upcoming EP release, The Deconstruction of Dan England will be available in late November 2007. Collaborations with Jeff Lang and Michael Stangel lead to a more honest rock and blues recording.
