It's been nothing if not fascinating observing the output of Liars in the last few years. The contrast between their last album, the self-titled Liars, and Drum's Not Dead, the experimental concept record that proceeded it is about as stark as you can find, even for a band known for constantly expanding their horizons. With Sisterworld, the band again have found themselves in uncharted territory, exploring more serious issues and deeper emotions with their music than they ever have before.The first noticeable thing about the album is what's not there; for it's in the expansive chasms of negative space that have been carved out that a more complex sense of meaning is found. The aggressive bursts of energy and noise are still there, but while it was once a constant force, it now becomes a counterpoint to a lilting interlude or hoarse whisper, giving it an impact an order of magnitude stronger than they've been able to achieve before.
