I saw the Angels Reunited last night at South Juniors, Sydney and wasn't expected too much especially after seeing the Footy Show but was BLASTED away by their rockin performance. I was reminded of why I was an Angels fan and why I always saw them live in the 80's.They are one of, if not only, the best live Aussie band to ever go and see - so full of electricity and energy. Doc delivered true to form, except for the running around like he used to (have to account for age) and the Brewster brothers just pumping out those memorable, melodic riffs was just fantastic, to say the least. If you were, are or going to ever be an Angels fan, you've got to go and see this tour. It's not to be missed.

How I Feel About It :

We reviewed Di Evantile’s Inertia last December and I remember thinking that Beatrice Clarke went a little easy on it. It seemed a little too Animatronics, too machine-like and the keyboard sounds seemed too cheesy and overused. Even if it was superbly orchestrated (and some of it well-played) it sounded a bit hollow and soulless to me. So imagine my surprise when I drew Infrared Clock to review. I thought, “Here’s an excellent chance to set the record straight.” But Di Evantile changed some things, and for the better.

This album is dreamy and trance inducing. It’s the perfect music to go to sleep to, without actually inducing sleep. There’s something at once modern and primeval about it, and it urges the listener to dream on an epic scale without requiring epic amounts of energy to do it. When we think we’ve made some kind of progress in the world of Hip Hop, someone always manages to pull it right back down, like crabs in a barrel. Not the best analogy, true, but it has more intelligence than in the entire Drivin’ Down The Block cut by Kidz In The Hall. Yet, the old school flavour of the track tends to be so appealing, it makes it hard to decide whether to listen to it or not.

It’s hard to believe that it has been 15 years since the landmark Illmatic album was released. Keeping it minimalist, Nas only invited one additional vocalist onto his opus, that being AZ, who delivered a mind-blowing verse on Life’s A Bitch. Heavy beats, heavy flow, heavy lyrics…so much is heavy with this album that maybe Mike Street should have perhaps called himself Heavy Mike…had he actually been physically heavy. But for what Mike Street is, which is both in some cases original and in some not, it is worth putting your ear to his album The Man and The Dream. Although this young aspiring artist doesn’t cite The Game as one of his influences, he sounds remarkably like him without the level of rasp in his voice and slightly less enthusiastic rhymes.
