The Tango Saloon launch brand new album 'Transylvania', now available through Vitamin Records. The Tango Saloon + The Crooked Fiddle Band + Charlie and the Maddox Factory The Tango Saloon's brand new album 'Transylvania' is released on the 9th of June, distributed by Vitamin Records.

Astor Piazzolla meets Ennio Morricone in this tango-flavoured project with a twist of spaghetti western. The Tango Saloon's second album 'Transylvania' uses a similar palate of sounds and styles to the debut, but also branches off into many other areas. Not so much a horror score, rather a "musical postcard" which of course includes some dark and disturbing sounds, but also manages to throw gypsy brass, cha cha and some wild vocal numbers into the mix

Violinist Ernie Gruner and accordionist/singer Phil Carroll play Gypsy, Klezmer, Middle-Eastern, French, Italian, Russian, jazz and tango music which range from soulful to wild. They have both studied overseas, and play and record together in larger bands (Klezmeritis, Yalla!, Flirting Mazurkas).

Australian concerts highlights include the National Folk Festival and National Multicultural Festival. Phil and Ernie's five NZ tours have included the Christchurch International festival spiegltent, Wellington & Dunedin Folk Festivals and the Christchurch Jazz Festival.

Ernie specializes in Jewish music and Phil specializes in Middle-Eastern music. They have worked together with theatre and dance events for Russian, Armenian, Jewish, Turkish, French and Italian and other productions and communities, as well as parties and wedding

Broadway Cafe (166 Broadway, Chippendale)

The Tango Saloon stripped-back quartet version, exploring the album pieces and some new tunes, in a relaxed cafe environment. Tango Saloon Quartet 'The Tango Saloon' is an album of original tango-based material, though with tangents such as spaghetti western, continental jazz and electronics. It has received great press and radio play all over the world, and in 2006 was released by Mike Patton's label Ipecac.

So far the shows have all been big, with 8 musicians, costumes, dancers, etc. But now, for a run of Wednesdays at the Broadway Cafe it's down to an intimate quartet. Exploring the album pieces, some new tunes, and open to audience requests. Also occasionally featuring guest musicians and groups.
