Event
Thursday, 25th March 2010

Middlesbrough Theatre, The Avenue,,

From the artistic team that created the hugely-acclaimed 2008 production of Oh What A Lovely War comes a major revival of Bill Naughtons classic comedy drama.

Forget the films, Alfie is the brilliant, original stage play about a young man with an overwhelming desire for the ladies. You might say that birds are irresistible to him, sort of second nature. There's Ruby - A lust box in beautiful condition; Clare - You're all lathered in sweat, Alfie; and Siddie, and Clara, and Annie - but who's counting? Certainly not Alfie. Three in one evening if necessary. And necessary is the right word!

Alfie combines great comedy and genuine pathos, as well as live 60s music, as it tells the story of a cockney Don Juan who swaggers and philosophises his way from conquest to conquest, carefully rejecting anyone or anything that might touch him too deeply.

Another Opening, Another Show

The hit songs from the flop shows!

The West End and Broadway have seen many musicals come and go. Some are runaway successes, others barely see the light of day before they close. Another Opening, Another Show is an evening of hit songs from the musicals that didn't quite make it. Andrew Lloyd Weber may have enjoyed phenomenal success with The Phantom of the Opera but his musical The Beautiful Game was less successful despite claims the show features some of "Lloyd Webber's most haunting ballads."

Join some of Australia's most celebrated music theatre artists on a journey through the decades of the wonderful songs from the forgotten shows. The production stars four of Australia's musical theatre talents: Rosie Harris, Danielle Matthews (winner of the 2009 Rob Guest Endowment), James Millar and Simon Gleeson.

Complex, sensitive, successful, loyal, confident and at times neurotic. The three female characters deal with very common and decidedly similar situations each in unique and subjective ways. The Surgical Sideshow Epic blackpaul

Monday 8th March 2010

Star Theatres, 145 Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Hilton, Adelaide 5033

A very bizarre play starring two giant skeletons as keen surgeons. Two cowering musicians pound out an unknown funeral march, marking the beginning of one of the most surprising and spectacularly imaginative pieces of theatre since the Rocky Horror Show.

Renowned for their sudden-death club skits as The Surgical Sideshow, two of the Sydney underground's strangest have concocted something big.

They call it The Surgical Sideshow Epic.

Put simply, the play is about two ambitious surgeons and their "excommunication" from the "Hallowed Halls of Medicine". Their subsequent journey in search of ultimate revenge upon everything is spring-loaded with unexpected detours and layers of complexity.

The leads are two mute skeleton creatures supported by a singing devil, a mad pope, sinister robots and some demented hand puppets. They harrow and are harried by an ubiquitous female lead who, with the aforementioned musicians and a couple of Brechtian help-mates, represents the all-too-human component of the show.

TYLER KYTES DEBUT EP Available NOW!

Hailing from Lindsey, Ontario, 22-year-old singer/songwriter Tyler Kyte has a voice that grabs you and won't let go. Blessed with a distinct vibrato, and raspy tone reminiscent of Eddie Vedder and Michael Stipe Tyler sings with a passion and emotion rarely heard. His songs combine the classic rock of Steve Miller and Pearl Jam, with a more rootsy approach that could as easily fill a stadium as a coffee house.

Tyler began his professional career as a child in acting. At the age of 10, he landed the coveted role of Young Tommy in the cult musical Tommy at Toronto's Elgin Theatre. This was soon followed by a recurring role in the pre-school science show Guess What and co-hosting the highly successful television series Popular Mechanics For Kids for three years. Additional credits include principal and leading roles in Darcy's Wild Life, Missing, Prom Queen , The Elizabeth Smart Story, Goosebumps & Are You Afraid Of The Dark among others. Electron - NuanceRelease 2009

Electron is the solo studio project of Paul Handley,

Adelaide based songwriter and keyboard player who currently plays

in The What 4 and electronic duo Beltane. Electron stems back

as far as the mid 90's, writing sound-scapes for student

dance theatre, experimental theatre and independent short films. The

first official CD 'Atmospherics' released in 2006 was written while

travelling through Japan and Europe, and recorded in Prague. This

release utilised ambiences recorded in the 'field' of which, train

stations and downtown city centres were of particular interest.

The forthcoming CD retains the ambient focus inherent

within the music of Electron but utilises more complex drum and

percussion rhythms with a tonal quality that often provides a melodic

backing to subtle undulating waves of synthetic textures.
