Sunday, 25th May 2008

Studio (Sydney Opera House), Bennelong Point Rd, Sydney

Set in a wrestling ring, join the lives of three brothers as one spends his first 24 hours in prison - electronica, dance and physical theatre tell the tale... Byron Perry, Gerard Van Dyck, Luke Hockley Set in a wrestling ring, Headlock combines physical theatre, text, choreography and visual imagery to catapult audiences into the lives of three brothers, as one of them spends his first 24 hours in prison.

KAGE creates genre-busting physical performance, recognised for extraordinary visual design, physical dexterity and humour. Headlock, is no exception. Its premiere garnered numerous awards, and was hailed a "wild, explosive, multi-faceted trip into the masculine psyche" (Melbourne Stage) and "a stunning piece of theatre" (The Sunday Age).

Expect bouts of pure adrenaline and electrifying physicality from Byron Perry, Gerard Van Dyck and Luke Hockley as they slam home the image of an incarcerated man on the edge of everything, who is up for anything.

Marlene Dietrich's life and songs perfectly captured in a tribute show by French chanteuse Caroline Nin Caroline Nin "simply sensational a hugely entertaining show"

The Advertiser (Adelaide)

From the 30's to the 50's, Marlene Dietrich was the ultimate symbol of "femme glamour" meets "femme fatale". The extraordinary Caroline Nin uses song, spoken word and video to capture both sides of the Dietrich persona, set against the backdrop of her anti-Nazi campaign during World War II.

Her songs became the soundtrack to a world in turmoil, establishing new standards like Lili Marlene, The Boys In The Backroom and They Call Me Naughty Lola on both sides of the front line.

Nin draws on Dietrich's life and music to paint a warm, three-dimensional portrait of a passionate and witty woman who became both icon and hero.

With his crystal-clear singing voice and vibrant, classically-inspired playing, Jos Gonzlez is one of today's most remarkable artists - testament to the irrefutable power of one man and a guitar. His debut album Veneer captured his magical sound in its purest state, simply beautiful and beautifully simple. He has since toured the UK and US extensively, selling out shows in every major market. While sonically similar to Veneer, Jos's latest release In Our Nature shows Gonzlez' growth as a songwriter. Displaying a heightened emphasis on melody and strong, focused lyrics - the album is a dark combination of softness and anger that is at once mesmerizing, intimate and hauntingly epic.

The SF Business Times just dropped the bombshell that Manhattan's Tavern on the Green will be taking a massive space in the Metreon overlooking Yerba Buena: "The world-famous Tavern On The Green, which has never expanded beyond its home overlooking Central Park, has leased 30,000 square feet plus a 13,000-square-foot terrace overlooking Yerba Buena Park [Ed. note: 43,000 sq ft total, FYI]. That's bigger than its New York flagship, which is the second-highest grossing independent restaurant in the United States, with 750,000 annual visitors and annual revenue just under $40 million." The move, surprising to begin with, is made even more curious when you consider that it will be housed in (atop) the Metreon movie theater, which—as the article points out—has been a blackhole of a flop for retailers and restaurants alike since opening in 1999. Other notables: 75% of the space will be reserved for special events, it will cater to the nearby convention center attendees, emphasis will be put on local i
