BarCamp Sydney #5 - The Recession Edition

Registration for BarCampSydney is now open - please Register and Sponsor BarCamp at the BarCampSydney5 page.

BarCamp Sydney is on again. This is our 5th BarCamp Sydney and as we are in the midst of the GFC and a recession we've decided that this BarCamp is the Recession Edition or "the BarCamp we had to have" (to paraphrase Keating from 1990).

http://barcamp.org/BarCampSydney

A BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants. Here is a quote from the wikipedia description:

'BarCamp is an international network of unconferences - open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants - focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies and social protocols.'

BarCampSydney is a gathering of creative tech brains for learning, sharing and collaboration.

Tosssed and Found: a junk art show .
Event
Friday, 12th June 2009

Tossed and Found is an exhibition of art work made from trash by homeless, formerly homeless, low income and at risk artists from Hospitality Houses Community Arts Program.

The artists in this exhibition have a unique relationship to the streets, many of them are homeless, or formerly homeless.

Long before the recent interest in art made from trash, these artists routinely salvaged discarded items that have been tossed to the curb, as a potential source of materials for making art .

From this enterprising attitude comes an appreciation for trash, garbage, junk and art, that is genuinely unique and often humorous. The work for the Tossed and Found was made during weekly workshops using tools, strategies and techniques for making art from junk, that artists and staff shared with one another.
