Carmen Souza Lisbon born Cape Verdean songstress Carmen Souza has it all: excellent repertoire, a mesmerizing, expressive and versatile voice that glides effortlessly through a huge range of registers and a spellbinding, charismatic stage presence. Whether she is singing the plaintive morna (the Cape Verdean variation of the blues) or an exuberant batuco, Souza is always convincing owing to her swingy jazz sense of timing and her virtuoso voice full of nuances from the highest to the lowest notes she sings. Singing in her ancestors' Creole language and mixing traditional African and Cape Verde rhythms with contemporary jazz influences she creates a unique sound all of her own. In the last 3 years she has build an amazing reputation touring all over the world and collecting outstading reviews from both her live performances and CDs.

A challenging and rewarding week of intensive dance training from leading Australian dancers and musical theatre performers is on offer, with APO Arts Academy opening its 2012 Summer Camp for enrolments. ENERGY Arts is a workshop for young people which utilises the performing arts to inspire creative thinking. This program recognises the theories based on multiple intelligences and encourages students to develop their senses so that they may discover their own individual strengths and natural abilities. The workshop content draws on creative and lateral thinking techniques derived from education, natural health and theatre. This month Sydneys Dorkbot goes to Performance Space as a part of the Clubhouse Program, to present 4 incredible projects from a variety of super nerds including: Petra Gemeinboeck and Rob Saunders with their installation Zwischenrume embeding curious robots into our architectural fabric, Michaela Davies who uses live percussion and sonified data to control motor function in performers via electric muscle stimulation (EMS), Aras Vaichas and his Micro Patch Synthesizer and Balint Seeber and Matt Robert who track planes in 3D by decoding RADAR using high-tech radio. Come along and experience a change in atmosphere and some amazing inventions!

The inaugural BOOM Festival is a movement based street festival will take place at Bassendean's Town Centre in and around Old Perth Road, BIC Reserve (behind Bassendean Memorial Library) and surrounding venues Urban Youth Crew Circus Act, Kite making, stage combat, swing, bellydance, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Cowboy lasso tricks, Zumba and martial arts Family and friends are invited to join the Town of Bassendean for their Inaugural Boom Festival.
