Join Tim and the band as they bring you a show rich in the art of gentle, beautiful songs.

With a live show that is breezy and nostalgic, characterised by skilful instrumental restraint and gentle sailing melodies, Tim Guy will play the Palais this April following the release of his fourth album.

A true drifter, he has roots across Eastern Australia, Papua New Guinea and more recently New Zealand, and will visit scattered venues up the eastern seaboard with his distinctive sound and his band in tow, telling stories through melody, harmony and a craftsman's way with words.

With a collaboration-rich history, Tim's previous albums include 2004's alt-country release Blazey, and 2007's low-fi gem Hummabyes, which were both received to high acclaim on the NZ music scene and featured many prominent guest musicians - notably Bic Runga, who went on to produce Blazey on her own label. The much celebrated radio-friendly album Big World was released in 2010 and accompanied by a multi-city European tour.

international folk circuit. Born in San Francisco and raised in Haight-Asbury during the 1960's, Kristina's

approach to music and life was formed by that environment of vital cultural

expression, social activism and diverse musical influences. She now calls Venice

Despite their inexperience, Subway Sect made a successful debut at the festival and were taken on by Clash manager Bernie Rhodes

They appeared with The Clash on the White Riot Tour in 1977 and released their debut single, "Nobody's Scared"/"Don't Split It", in March 1978

While recording their debut album at Gooseberry Studios, Rhodes suddenly fired the entire band except for Godard

JOE BLACK TRIO WITH DAN ROLLS JOE BLACK TRIO WITH DAN ROLLS Joe Black Trio began performing their fusion of gypsy jazz and world folk-rock in mid-2010 and recently released their self-titled EP. The band has performed at The Ellington Jazz Club, Nannup Music Festival, KULCHA and Fremantle Arts Centre and can be spotted at semi-regular gigs in Fremantle and Subiaco.

Band members Julia Watson (violin), Ellen Paynter (double bass) and Holly Norman (percussion/vocals) met through the Western Australian classical music scene and nowadays the group's sound mixes shredding violin and sultry vocals with deep dark bass and explosive percussion. All tunes in the band's repertoire have been arranged by the group and live performances always include new improvisations over the gypsy-caravan-esque musical material.

The band cites New York-based fusion outfit Absolute Ensemble and formerly Brisbane-based Doch Gypsy Orchestra as major influences, and jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald and Madeleine Peyroux influen

Republic Bar & Cafe, 299 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

Sietta are an electronic soul duo from Darwin, made up of producerinstrumentalist James Mangohig and vocalist Caiti Baker.

Both experienced musical childhoods: Caiti travelled throughout Australia to blues and folk festivals with her blues musician father, absorbing dog-eared record collections stocked with Etta James, Memphis Minni and Aretha Franklin; while James sat on wooden church pews with gospel music soaring around him. Caiti spent her entire teenage years recording herself on her dads 8 track digital recorder, learning to sing by building harmonies over hip hop tracks; James learnt the bass, performing in numerous bands before honing his skills as a producer. The infl uence of soulful, spiritual music, helped shaped them: their upbringings bookended by a chance meeting in Brisbane in the mid 2000s, and the uncanny fact that they were both born in the same Adelaide hospital. Their fi rst offi cial release was a remix for TZUs Computer Love remix album, coming off the back of James r
