Bondax's evocative music seems to drift between urban sonic landscapes, avoiding classification. Incorporating elements of post-Dubstep, R&B, and Garage, the Lancaster-based duo craft an intimate, electronic bliss that reveals something new with each repeated play. Despite the fact that Adam and George are still enjoying their teens, their music shimmers with a maturity and sophistication that belies their age.

Solid Gold: Ko Flow ft. Masia One

Solid Gold on Sept 6

Solid Gold: Koflow Feat. Masia One
Sat 6 September
Velvet Underground ? Dance

Solid Gold is a Hip Hop culture collective comprising DJ KoFlow and Felix of the Radikal Forze Crew. Their aim is to bring Hip Hop in its very best dance essence to the forefront of the club scene. From Funk to Disco, from Reggae to Dancehall, from Boom Bap to Trap, the sounds you can expect during the night come from an array of various genres past to present that have shaped Hip Hop.
Solid Gold was revved up in March with a powerful kickoff to the year by a partnership with Redbull Music Academy to host Hip Hop's legends, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan at Zouk. Another collaboration was also made with Recognize Studio, to present their series of dance- centric events like 'Mash up di place' and 'The Radikal Forze 16th year Anniversary'. Riding off the good vibes we shared from the past events, here is the next party you do not wanna sleep on. When there is Solid Gold, Hip Hop wins!

I've personally been calling it the free web for some time now. It rolls off the tongue a bit easier than federated. I previously called it the indie web, but there's now a project by that name with a slightly different (although not completely incompatible) philosophy.

To my knowledge, there is no collective name for
#Diaspora,
#Friendica and
#Red.

Or is there?!

Any suggestions if there isn't??

Federated social networks ?

and today gnusocial is out they started the federation few years ago

Federated Social Networks sounds about right even though that's just a feature for the RedMatrix.

I was looking for just one word really, rather than a term.

Like "fedsocnet" ? It's a word if you really want it hard enough :D

Not all distributed social networks are federated. These three can be called federated because connections can be added from more than one platform - e.g. diaspora contacts can be added to RedMatrix and Friendica and vice versa.

A tomato is both a fruit and a vegetable but not all vegetables are fruits.

Being a startrek fan I like "The Federation" better than "The Distribution" (which sounds like a Linux OS that thinks it's the only one). And "Red" has connotations that alot of people might not like (like "Red China," or "Red states" who elect Republicans), or that aren't politically correct, like "Redskins." Diaspora means distributed though, so let's call them all "the cyberspace diaspora."

Yeah! The Federation. I'm all in on this one. It's got a great pedigree and describes exactly what the networks are.

When people talk about "federation" in the context of Diaspora, they're usually talking about federation among the pods, not among other social networks.

But we can also use it to talk about the federation of decentralized "pods" like Frendica and whatever else there is.

Yes Brent, I have noticed that too, and it bugs the shit out of me. I have even used it in that context and scolded myself afterward.

What else would you call it, though? Federation among pods is an important thing to discuss, especially since there are apparently still some kinks to be worked out.

It could be called pod distribution...

Most everyone is probably too accustomed to incorrectly calling it federation to get them to change though.

And "Red" has connotations that alot of people might not like

So does Diaspora, amigo. So does Diaspora.

Diaspora has come to refer particularly to historical mass dispersions of an involuntary nature, such as the expulsion of Jews from Judea, the African Trans-Atlantic slave trade, Europeans from north western Europe, the southern Chinese or Hindus of South Asia during the coolie trade, or the century-long exile of the Messenians under Spartan rule.[3]

Touche', Mike.

I personally don't care what it's called. "Federation" is a pretty good term for going between the networks. Each platform is "distributed" but, the fact that they all talk together builds the Federation.

Nonetheless, high fives to the
#diaspora,
#friendica and
#redmatrix devs to enable this ability to talk between the platforms. \o

Fediverse? (seen that one used on statusnet ages ago)

Federation -- yus! And yeah I had a few non D* folk comment on the term Diaspora. I never really thought about it myself. And nowadays if you look up the word Diaspora, it's all over the place.

fidonet and usenet had federation decades ago

so did email...

even the word "internet" hints at federation!

I'm going to make a suggestion. We call our pods Constellations and the aggregate of them all who communicate together The Federation or Federations. Constellations credit to jaya@diasporabrazil.org! Good idea!

I've also got a soft spot for "the rebel alliance".
#justsayin

I like it! The Federation of Rebel Alliances.

Cool thread :)

I'm still searching for that one magical word though, one word that describes all three networks. So when I use this magical new word everyone will know that I am specifically referring to D/F/R.

the wonderweb

"Rediaspica" tickles my pun-sense, but I must admit, "The Federation" is just too perfect not to go with it. Great thread, everybody!

indeed -

The Federation | La Federación | La Fédération | die Föderation.

A good name should be easily translatable, methinks

en attendant l'arrivée des vulcains ....

Vulcan Language Dictionary : Teraya-eingelsu . Yeah, we'll have to revise this when they arrive.

Ha! The Federation LIVES! Next stop, second star to the right...

Oh, while we're at it - why not

diatrixica

DIAspora + red maTRIX + friendICA

?

:-)

Freenet is a decentralized encrypted data store.
It is it's own thing.

Personally, whatever word that is finally ever agreed upon shouldn't be a mix of Diaspora+Friendica+Red Matrix. Not only is it super cheesy, hopefully in the future it's not just these three networks... I also agree that it should be a single word.

"Federation" is a long standing term for these distributed services but, the term also doesn't fully capture the overall essence. Yet, it's still a pretty strong term for what each team is doing here.

But, to go on @Mike Macgirvin's "the rebel alliance" idea, "
alliance " is a damn near perfect term.
A close association of nations or other groups, formed to advance common interests or causes...

And then, we can easily geek out and call it The Rebel Alliance and be happy. ;)

Of course, this is all
#IMHO.

sporedica :)

*Like Phle, I was just kidding ;) * I think alliance is beautiful. And it is easily translatable to ES, FR, IT, GE... Alliance comes from the latin ad+ligare, which means literally to link together.

Post
Light It Up with Markup
When I started designing for the Web years ago, before the dot-com bubble burst, the term interaction design quite often referred to the use of Flash when it came to the Web. If you wanted to make your web site interactive in any way, that?s what you used.

While we?ve mostly done away with Flash, the trade-off is that static web sites are still the majority. Pages on the Web are full of text, images, and links. Sometimes a video, too, although it?s almost always stuck in a rectangular box, slapped in the middle of a page, waiting for a click of the play button to come alive.

Shake the humbugs
Things don?t have to be this way. The Web is naturally interactive, with users clicking around from page to page and site to site, discovering all sorts of things along the way. The Web is flexible; it flows from one device to another, regardless of screen sizes or browser functionality. Pages and elements have states, positions, and layout that can be manipulated through code and through input from users.

With all of its potential, why does the Web feel so stiff? We should be taking advantage of its interactive nature and flexibility. Design details shouldn?t end in a Photoshop mockup; they should continue on to the code. Interaction design for the Web extends beyond hover states and animated GIFs.

CSS is more powerful than ever. Designers and developers alike should take advantage of these advancements in code and browser support. Good design and good code only take the Web so far. It?s the layer between, the one that makes your design come alive, that can take the us to the next level.

Add some tinsel to the (DOM) tree
One of the least attractive things you can offer on your web site is a form. If I can paraphrase Luke Wroblewski for a moment, ?No one wants to use your form; they just want what?s on the other side of it.? That said, forms are a necessary evil in some cases, so why not make them more interactive and less painful?

Have a look at 45royale?s project planner . Not only does it clearly communicate the number of steps involved and provide helpful tooltips for each input, but those same tooltips are highlighted along with the text input as you move through the form. Placeholder text appears in each field to improve the quality of the input, and each step appears without a new page load, thanks to JavaScript.

Not all enhancements need to be so functional, though. Canvas?s client list , for example, features your typical grid of company logos that the agency has worked with. But, move the slider from ?Day? to ?Night?, and watch as the heading, icons, and logos themselves light up in a bright neon as the background fades to black.

And, it?s not just about buttons, inputs, and links. Other elements of the page can be given just a little touch of interactivity. Scroll down Mosaic?s single-page site and watch as the calendar rocks into place. Transparent clouds move past the blimp on Helium?s site . A looping video element fills the background of Sevenly?s team page .

Keep Delivering Gifts
Remember, the Web isn?t static; your design shouldn?t be, either. And, as browser support for CSS improves, so too does your ability to enhance the user experience of the Web. Use design and markup to deliver your best content to users, then delight them with the joy of interaction.
