Nadya Golski, that queen of gypsy soul and her spirited band of virtuoso musicians, The 101 Candles Orkestra, is world music at its best. It has all the verve and style. An alchemical mix of picquant melodies and spellbinding rhythms, styles ranging from Slavic melancholia and Manouche inspired French Chanson embracing Piaf, to romantic waltzes, tangos and boleros, alternating fast rhythms, toes tapping, hands clapping, dancers on their feet, characterises a night with The Candles.

Nadya Golski the central personality and lead singer is renowned for her intense vitality and extraordinary vocal delivery, good humour, unpredictability and charm. She is a warm and humorous entertainer. It is an interesting story which lies behind her performance. Following teenage life in a remote highland village in PNG, Nadya became a sort of super-star in her twenties, singing in pidgin and local dialect, being toured around PNG and the Pacific, and this is where she learned a lot of her extraordinary musicality and ability for harmonies?Since then, years in Paris, working with famous gypsy musicians Nadya has acquired gypsy vocal techniques which enrich her current performance, giving it curvaceous magnitude. The Candles have been performing in and around Europe, across Australia, at Montreux, Edinburgh, Womadelaide, Cziget, Woodford and MONA. Don?t miss them!†

Come let the passionate, the extraordinary, the exciting Edith Piaf and her friends entertain you! Dahlia relives the musical Paris of the 30?s to 60?s. You can dine and enjoy the show (must ring†to reserve a table) or just come for the show.

Edith Piaf and Friends
is a tribute to the popular legendary French musical icons we have all loved and enjoyed ?" Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, Yves Montand, Enrico Macias, Juliette Greco, Gilbert Bťcaud? The year 2013 is also a very special for Piaf lovers ?" it is exactly 50 years since the French chanteuse died. A nation mourned her when she passed away, but her songs have become immortalized and are enjoyed even more today. Apart from a wide variey of Piaf?s well known and not so well known songs, including La Foule, Mon Dieu and Le Gitan, there are many favourites by other French greats, such as Charles Aznavour (For Me Formidable), Charles Trenet (La Mer), Yves Montand (Autumn Leaves), Gilbert Becaud (Et Maintenant), and much more.

Dahlia, born in Jerusalem, commenced singing at a very early age, and quickly established herself as one of the most popular performing artists in Israel, climaxing with her starring role in the highly successful and much loved Israeli musical - Kazablan (Israeli version of West Side Story), which ran for 2 years. She is a singer of enormous vitality and energy, and her styles include jazz, blues, torch songs, and international cabaret. Dahlia can authentically sing and interpret songs from all over the world, and is indeed one of the most versatile vocalists, singing in over 20 languages. She began her international career in London?s prominent West End clubs such as the Astor Club and George Raft's Colony Club on Berkley Square, and also in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Manila and Bangkok. In Australia Dahlia has performed on the same bill with legends such as Ray Charles, Matt Monro, Blood Sweat and Tears, Tiny Tim, Lulo Reinhardt, and the famous Metropolitan Opera tenor, Jan Peerce.

What they said?..

I?ve waited way too long to see Dahlia Dior, and as I discover, Dahlia?s versatility across, jazz, cabaret, chanson, torch songs and much more, knows virtually no bounds. ?in her new show Piaf: A Passionate Life famous and not-so-famous songs are worn together with biographical excerpts: it?s as if that little bird has confided a few secrets. Dior?s fragrant recreation of the mood and disposition of France?s ?national popular singer? is spellbinding ?.and one is transported back to her heroic beginnings. Dahlia is a consummate performer; an astonishing singer, with a commanding theatrical presence. This show alone is one which should be seen in Paris and all over the world. Wherever La Mome Piaf is known and loved. It brings her back to life. ?Padam, padam, padam!? go the heartstrings. Showbiz critic Brad Syke

It was standing room only at popular Sydney music venue Camelot when Dahlia Dior presented her personal tribute to French singing legend Edith Piaf. Dior punched out popular Piaf songs in the style of the French diva with looks and a stage presence to match the quality of her performance. A more than enthusiastic audience swayed in time with the music? She said: ?I particularly enjoy singing the legendary songs of Edith Piaf as I feel an emotional connection to this most iconic and most loved of French singers". Showbiz critic Henry Benjamin

"The Gallic tradition of torch songs, cabaret songs, Gypsy songs, opera and jazz is as rich as bechamel sauce, and Dahlia Dior gave us the full gamut... She sang tunes made famous by Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, and Michel Legrand... Dior's special gift is to animate not just her face and the lyrics, but the stage and the whole room. With eyes like rising suns she charmed with demureness one moment, beguiled with raunchiness the next... this was Dior's night: as effervescent as champagne". John Shand - The Sydney Morning Herald

?There?s nothing quite as inspiring as French song when it?s done right. Dahlia Dior does it just right and doesn?t restrict herself to Piaf, but ranges over the best work by the likes of Aznavour, Montand, Chevalier, and more when she presents ?Chansons d?Amour?, a tribute to 100 years of French Cabaret? The Drum Media

?I mentioned passion. That?s the quality along with a superb vocal instrument that Dior brings to her performance at its best... The voice can rock rafters and she can hold a note without a trace of tremolo for what seems a small eternity - big lungs, great control, perfect technique. ?the voice is filtered through the nasal back-streets and comes out perfectly authentic Gallic style; and yet Dior can also coo like any dove and throttle back to the Aznavour monologue style in Let Yourself Go, at once romantic and wryly humorous. Trenet?s La Mer was among her show stoppers?. Peter Morrison ?" The Australian Jewish News

?Dahlia revives ?" or is it relives? ?" French cabaret, which became a universal art from before the time when Edith Piaf struggles from the gutters of Paris to make it internationally acceptable? Dior presents all seasons of emotion. With a few carefully chosen props she explores the genre with sympathy and understanding. The exploration is shared with her audience through her narration, and presentation, in English, of the songs before or during her renditions in beautifully expressive French? Her appeal and charm extend beyond that into the theatre of her face and body, from which her ?act? takes shape and reaches out from the intimate stage of the Cafe". The Canberra Times

?A heady mix of luxuriant French Cabaret and the spice of vibrant, melodic folk" ?" Richard Schweizer, Eastside Radio, Sydney

Joce Moen is delighted to launch her second album ?" Spirit Level/ Niveau ŗ Bulle ?" at†Foundry 616 on 20th June, the eve of† June, the eve of La FÍte de la Musique. In the spirit of this joyful French festival of music and community, special guests from Sydney?s music scene will be joining Joce on stage.

Spirit Level/ Niveau ŗ Bulle is an eclectic solo album that celebrates love, travel and motherhood.

A troubadour beloved of audiences in Sydney, Berlin, Paris, and Montreal, Joce Moen sings in both French and English. Her songs are hand-crafted stories of chance poetic encounters (sometimes with people, sometimes with garbage trucks), the wonder and sorrow of travelling, and the discovery of love and happiness. Joce?s music defies categorization but draws from jazz, folk and blues traditions.

Joce?s debut album La Rouge Qui Bouge was recorded in Paris, where she lived for several years busking in streets and metro tunnels as well as performing with an international band including jazz pianist Chris Cody. Back home in Australia she appeared in festivals such as Peat?s Ridge and in venues across the country. Joce then followed love to Montreal and conceived her solo cabaret show The Red Rover, touring with it also to the Wellington Fringe Festival in 2010.

Now living in the Blue Mountains with her young family, Joce has re-established herself playing in Australian venues such as the Clarendon and the Paragon (Katoomba), The Front (Canberra), The Studio (Melbourne) and The Alley Cat (Hobart). Her mamma-rock duo Runcible Spoon performs original songs about childhood and parenthood, and will be playing this year?s Blue Mountains Winter Magic Festival.

Her cabaret duo Threepenny Moon graces arts events and happenings around both Australia and Canada.

?Her presence on stage is one of surprising seduction. Standards appear to be washed, revisited with joyful tenderness. Her own compositions are born spontaneously of life?s daily chances ... All of great musicality? A light, persistent echo of one of those rare moments when fraternity is made without presupposition or project? ?" Sylvie ClidiŤre, journalist, Paris

The band features up to seven pieces including banjo, trumpet, saxophone, trombone, accordion, guitaron (Mexican bass), flute, guitars and drums.

In the tradition of artists such as Tom Waits, Calexico and The Pogues, Waiting for Guinness take their nourishment from ?old music? and hot-wire the styles of Berlin Cabaret, Mariachi, Vaudeville, Spaghetti Western and Swing-Jazz into their own surreal vision.

In concert, Waiting for Guinness? spontaneous and anarchic performances are truly engaging. The theatrical element is as strong as ever, harking back to their busking origins. Fado in Australia is a group of Portuguese Fado musicians based in Sydney, NSW. The band was formed approximately 15 years ago thanks to the passion of Portuguese immigrants who incredibly missed their native musical roots and who decided to bring it back to the Australian Portuguese community. Several years later Fado in Australia has seen the arrival of emerging young Portuguese artists and has exposed Fado to multi-cultural audiences. Fado in Australia performs traditional Fado styles ranging from the first artists to the latest ones and intends to take you through a journey of discovery of the most typical Lisbon neighborhoods, homes to Fado.

Fado, a national treasure in the eyes of the Portuguese and an official Cultural Heritage according to the UNESCO, is a unique Iberian musical melting pot, blending elements from Moorish, African, and Brazilian Fado is by nature a sad and mournful music. The loose translation of the word is ?destiny? or ?fate?, and its lyrics focus on melancholy and events regarding loss and longing.

The origins of Fado are uncertain. It may have its roots in the songs of troubadours, the homesickness of seafarers or the Lundum songs sung by the black slaves from Brazil. It began with popular rhythms and lyrics, in Porto and Lisbon, and as the country developed so Fado gradually evolved into something more complex. Today it is considered an important form of world music.

Sandy Evans and Llew Kiek will lead you into this night of bent grooves, trancin? and wild honking. Percussionist Peter Kennard and bassist Steve Elphick will drive the compelling and sometimes convoluted rhythms.
