Kindred The Family Soul
Husband and wife Fatin Dantzler and Aja Graydon seemingly came out of nowhere in 2003 to release what was likely the most critically acclaimed soul album of that year, 'Surrender to Love', under their moniker Kindred the Family Soul.
Evoking the sounds of an updated Womack and Womack but with the underlying joyousness of Ashford and Simpson, the duo was a breath of fresh air as they sang of their deep love for each other and their family, even while acknowledging the challenging, often monotonous existence of daily life.
Conya Doss has a voice that sounds like it's both from the past and future. By drawing on her classical, blues, R and B and rock influences she collectively and seamlessly creates great music.
Perhaps it was the birth of her son Landon Blu in 2010 that helped to provide inspiration for her fresh material, which is filled with bolts of newfound creativity.
Doss has been juggling her responsibilities as teacher, mother and artist. "It's been a challenge trying to effectively balance all of these things, but I've been patient with myself and this project,"explains the songbird.
Conya's new single 'I'm Trying' is out now, giving an insightful appetiser into the highly anticipated studio album set for release Summer 2018.
